TT, were they still having fire-fighting, with real oil fires out in the field, when you were there?

Absolutely. One of the phrases that it was mandatory that you had to learn was “Last Man Back”. It was when you became the last man on the hand-line (hose) during the fighting of the oil fire.

Oh yeah, we got real fires. Real smoke in the smoke house too (I now remember THAT was “george”) but the gas chamber was closed on our day for heat and humidity. Darn! LOL
