Value-oriented conservatives have been around and influencing Presidential elections since LONG BEFORE 2004. You may have it right that Huckabee is the only candidate for whom many value-oriented people such as myself will vote, but there are lots of other conservatives who will never vote for him. So regardless, I think we need to face the cold, hard reality: since the GOP cannot seem to produce a viable candidate who is acceptable to both social and other conservative factions, the Dems are almost certain to win.
But it’s only in November 2004 that they succeeded to create a big last-minute Surprise !
We’ve been following US Presidentials since the Sixties, but never saw before such a sharp and strong, crystal-clear but unexpected, decisive move.
=> Now, (in 2008, as well as in 2012), the point is to recognize its real Importance, make it Stable, and forge an Efficient Base for the Future.
If there are some Pseudo-”Conservatives” who prefer Dems to win, as you claim, then, let them reveal, in front of all American People, and while the whole World is looking, their real nature as defeatists Crypto - Lib-Dems, instead of hidding behind false claims !
=> People will judge them, if they betray, both now and in the Future. (Mike Huckabee can stand and win also in 2012, if needed)...
In case of betrayal, People will resuffle Politics, both in the US and elsewhere in the World, in a brand New Way, able to reveal the Real Dividing lines, without misleading voters, but going straight to the most important things for People’s lives :
- It’s better to focus, in a crystal-clear manner, on what is really at stake : Fex. Mrs Pelosi’s BioTech pals, at Calif. Dems, might find a few submarines secretly pushing for Cloning, Genetic Manipulation of Human Embryo, and other, even worse Atrocities Dangerous for all Humankind, hidden or infiltrated anywhere : Once again, let their Masks fall, and People judge, if needed, by reNewing Politics : That’s the only Democratic way !
