This is reprehensible!
Fox News Talk Network host John Gibson announced the sad and tragic death of actor Heath Ledger on Tuesday by mocking him and making light of his untimely passing.
Disgusting!
We've been on this creep's show before and we will boycott his show in the future, unless he issues an apology.
Here's a rundown of what happened:
"Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, 'I wish I knew how to quit you' from Ledgers gay romance movie Brokeback Mountain, Gibson disdainfully quipped, 'Well, he found out how to quit you.' Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback Mountain in which Ledger said, 'Were dead,' followed by his own, mocking 'Were dead' before playing the clip again."
Gibson called Ledger a "weirdo" with a "serious drug problem" and suggested that Ledger killed himself because he had "a serious position in the (stock) market" or perhaps "watched the Clinton-Obama debate last night. I think he was an Edwards guy, cause he saw his Edwards guy was just completely irrelevant."

Actually, imho, it is a big deal. No one should mock the death of another human being. Period. Gibson made himself and Fox News look like raging sociopaths. The image that Gibson presented is not responsible journalism and he is doing a disservice to himself, Fox News and the conservative movement.
P.S. I never heard of Heath Ledger. I had to read the obits to see what his claim to fame was. I guess when - like me - you see about one movie a year, and it isn’t “Brokeback Mountain,” you lose touch with these things.
It didn't.
And, of course, when a young, famous, attractive and well-liked person with a bright future and a young child dies unexpectedly it makes people stop and think about life and death in a way that the death of 90 year old does not.
I have never understood why a nut like him is on TV to start. Like I don't understand the hype over this man's death, he was a good actor. and poor old gibson doesn't understand the concept of stand-ins when making movies.
Heath Ledger was in “The Patriot” with Mel Gibson...
But Perez Hilton is hypocritical. He made a # 1 fugly llist and put Ledger as NUMBER !.....(he lost his hair and looked emacicated)
He has been bashing Ledger for awhile.
Just an opportunity to bash Fox...if you ask me.
I’m not a huge Gibson fan, I find him to be a bit obnoxious, and maybe he went a little overboard. But Ledger’s death, while tragic in the sense that any premature death is tragic, is NOT NEWS, and shouldn’t even be on a news broadcast except as perhaps a one line blurb mentioned in passing.
... when a young, famous, attractive and well-liked person with a bright future and a young child dies unexpectedly it makes people stop and think about life and death...

Ok- that’s a good point.
FWIW, I haven’t paid attention to Gibson in years. There’s a certain creep factor to him. (This confirms it.)
I’ll give Gibson the benefit of the doubt. I’m skeptical of the veracity of any report like this from a blogger.
"I wish I could quit you..."
Way to go John, I'm going to be tuning in more often.
I’m sorry but I find it hard to mourn when stupid people die from doing stupid things.
Now can we have some real news for a change about people with substance?
and by people with substance I meant they have substantive ideas...not the substance as in substance abuse
I think Perez Hilton is retarded and should be ignored, but Gibson needs to be suspended. This was totally out of line.
I don’t care what FReepers say. Gibson is held to a higher standard.
If true, this is inexcusable. I’ve been disgusted with Fox News’coverage of Ledger’s death on their morning shows. Right away they speculated over all manner of things that might have led to Ledger’s death. It’s like a feeding frenzy.
John’s ranch is a couple of miles from mine. Between us lived a very sweet old lady that passed away Saturday. She did more good in this world than any Hollywood pretty-boy. Maybe Gibson doesn’t think much of another celebrity drug death. There will be another soon, I’m sure.
