2008 Buick Invitational

Mickelson Fit for Play at Buick
By Associated Press - January 23, 2008

2007 Buick InvitationalSAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Buick Invitational will have the Nos. 1 and 2 players in the world, after all.

After three days of bed rest and antibiotics for respiratory problems, Phil Mickelson said Tuesday he was feeling better and will play in the pro-am Wednesday at the Buick Invitational, paving the way for him to make his '08 debut at Torrey Pines. He also has a practice session planned with swing coach Butch Harmon.

"I'm feeling much, much better," Mickelson said. "I'm happy about that and looking forward to working with Butch to make sure everything is in order for this week."

Mickelson has not played since winning the HSBC Champions in China in November. He suspects the respiratory problems, which included shortness of breath, stemmed from either cleaning up debris outside his San Diego County home after the wildfires, or something he picked up in Asia during a two-week stint last fall.

Mickelson is a three-time winner of the Buick Invitational, ending Tiger Woods' six-tournament winning streak in 2000 and last winning in 2001 in a playoff.

Woods is the three-time defending champion.

11 birdies in a round! Only in my dreams, Baynative.

Wasn't the Abu Dhabi tournament played Jan 17-20?

I just looked up the European Tour and found:

2008 Dubai Desert Classic
Jan 31-Feb 3
Emirates Golf Course
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Defending: Henrik Stenson

Is this the tournament you refer?

Ahem. They are Europeans, Baynative. There is no such thing as a terrorist nation.

I heard on the Golf Channel last night that 300 people volunteered to squeegie the greens. Outstanding effort by the local population, golf lovers all. There really IS an advantage of holding a tournament on a public course.

The only time a US Open was held on a public course was a few years ago at Bethpage Black. Torrey Pines will be the second.

That was incredible. Twenty foot right to left swing and at least 40 foot to birdie and go 20 under.

Even Tiger had to smile on that one.

Routine birdie on the par 5 13th to go -21. He’s lapping the field.

Unfortunately, I have to run out for dinner but I’ll check back later in the evening. Looks like Tiger will tie Arnold Palmer for most career wins.

Going to be a long season for everyone else, and Tiger will own more cars than a police department!

Phil Mickelson, in good shape? What are they smoking?? He certainly isn’t going to give tiger a run for the money, especially when you are 50/50 from 4 feet. We’re going to hear about his “respitory illness” longer than we care to.

They need something to fall back to when Lefty starts spraying tee balls everywhere except on the fairway. I know Phil’s short game is impecable, but unless your name is Tiger, you can’t resort to it constantly.
Welcome to 2008, another walk in the park for Tiger.

Those are 3rd round scores, Z! If I were Ernie, be careful not to look over your shoulder, because Tiger is always lurking!
The last couple of weeks have seen some of the coldest weather in history in that part of the world. The snow in Baghdad a few weeks ago was the start.
Watching Kraft kissing arse in the tower. What did they say, maybe 200,000 in the gallery today! WOW!

No prob! That scene on 16 is surreal! How do that many people stay quiet so that shots can be played is beyond me
Lefty could be much closer, if not for those wayward drives.
