Pournelle chart

Was looking for the straight line graph that I saw years ago in a political science text.

The Pournelle chart is just silly. Only someone indoctrinated by the modern pro socialist media would claim that communism somehow more rational than Nazism.

Certainly the Nazism of the 1930s looks a bit superstitious to early 21st century people. They followed some now discreditted scientific theories of race. That is no more irrational than the discredited scientific theories of the communist and socialist.

That is what solves this issue. There are statists and non-statists. What rationale one uses for ones statism is only window dressing.

Pournelle’s chart is accurate with regard to attitudes towards the state.

Without commentary from him it’s hard to tell if he understood that the attitude towards Reason is theoretical, not actual.

Commies claimed that their system was scientific and rational, but of course it wasn’t, as science by definition doesn’t kill anybody who disagrees. The scientific method requires disagreement and challenge to function.

Fascists and Nazis, OTOH, were vocal about their disdain for science and reason, proclaiming the superiority of blood, soil, nation and race over science and reason. But they were just as anxious as anybody else to use the fruits of science and reason, and in the case of the Nazis were quite good at it.
