A sergeant is an “officer”? The press conrinues its unbroken record of being a total dumbass when it comes to reporting the military.

Not just about the military. Any topic. What amazes and frustrates me is how widespread this inattention to detail remains, across the board in journalism.

I'll bet most people can identify with this: Every single time I've been involved in something, on the inside, that was then reported in the press-- every time-- there have been material errors of fact in the story. Often just simple things: names wrong, titles wrong, place names wrong... simple things that merely needed the most elemental of editorial fact checking. Sometimes though, there were material errors that changed the whole nature of the story.

It's made me automatically suspicious of even the most straightforward of stories and most basic of "facts" in the story. The press just can't be trusted.
