But dead.... which says that the smear, which seems to have worked for a time, was somebody's way of trying to impugn her motives.

Lesson: when the accused (the senior officer, in this case) goes ad hominem, it's worth wondering what he's trying to hide.

Just check out the stories with any husband accused of murdering his wife “she was on drugs!” “her supplier must have killed her!” “she was nuts! - she ran off somewhere!”....etc. etc.....

easy to paint someone is a bad light when they’re dead and cannot defend their reputation.

I don’t know. Hopefully the reporter was a little more accurate with that “fact” than the supposed Sr. Officer, which was actually a corporal.
