****I have several family members in the military and I do not feel good about foreigners or persons with a criminal background allowed to enlist.***

I didn’t think they could.

Neighbor’s son - born in USA - 5th generation - enlisted just under the age limit - he was not accepted because of an old knee injury - even though his expertise would have been on a computer system.

Something’ ain’t right!

I think Brian noted he probably became a US citizen through marriage. Makes the most sense to me. It does seem like a stretch that the Marines don’t know his place of birth or nationality. Even his birth date is questioned on the FBI alert. Maybe his records have received increased scrutiny with the FBI involved, and they cannot verify what Laurean had given to the Marine Corps.

I hear the military has accepted illegal aliens. I know of several foreigners who have enlisted - and it was NOT for the love of this country or wanting to fight terrorists.

A couple of years ago Senior Airman Ahmad al Halabi, a Syrian national in the US Air Force, was arrested for spying. Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, of Camp Lejoune, NC, faced desertion charges and other charges and allegedly was in contact with an Islamic group. There have been other cases that apparently failed to make the news.
