Have you ever read Stepgenson’s very first book “The Big U”?
It’s very unlike his later novels.

Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson I read his "Baroque Cycle" when they were in hardback. C'mon Neal, write more!
"Cryptonomicon" is still his best.
