“Into The Wild” by John Krakauer. A true story about a kid fresh out of Emory University that decides to hit the road of adventure in 1990. He leaves Atlanta, travels the West and SW and eventually is found dead in the wild country of Alaska not far from Denali. I highly recommend this book to those drawn to the Call of The Wild, if you know what I mean. This kid was a very interesting character of unusual constitution, determination, and a true believer in the austere lifestyle. This book was just recently made into a movie directed by the disgusting dirtbag, Sean Penn, who I am sure will take license with distorting the truth of the book. Best book I have read in the last 3 years. I usually read US history.
I also was very impressed with the book Into the Wilds and the movie and, unlike lots of conservatives,do not condemn this young man for his quest, misguided as it often was.He did WORK for much of his money and wasn’t out there grubbing off of society. He saw something intrinsically wrong with modern society and it resonated very much with tied down with bills and responsiblities me.
Its also very well written.
I had read Tony Dungy’s Quiet Strength but someone gave me the audio book for Christmas. I’m not much of an audio book guy but I am listening to it now and it’s fantastic. He reads an abridged version himself and while I am a huge football fan the abridged version really hits on all of the key management and leadership points of the book. Really good.
I also was sent an Advanced Reader’s Copy of a book by David Aikman (former Time mag writer) titled The Delusions of Disbelief: Answering the Arguments of Atheism. Quite interesting but isn’t in stores until April.
