Well, in a few hours, a few LSU folks will recall with dread the name Greg Frey. Yep, the Buckeye quarterback no one remembers but die-hard Buckeye and LSU fans. The quarterback who led the team to one of the most spectacular comebacks ever witnessed at Ohio Stadium.
As Wikipedia puts it: On September 24, 1988, he rallied Ohio State from a 33-20 deficit in the final four minutes for a 36-33 victory over the ninth-ranked LSU Tigers.
I was at that game in the shoe, urging all the fans who were leaving early to stay put. It was gratifying to see them pour back in as the miracle comeback unfolded. When Bobby Olive made that flying catch in the end zone for the win, I distinctly remember sharing overwhelmingly jubilant joy with thousands of other Buckeyes around me.
The LSU fans who shuffled back to their cars were morose indeed .... it's a long long drive to Louisiana from Ohio. These same fans are now hoping for a dose of that gloom to be heaped upon the carloads of Bucknuts on their way back home from the Dome tonight.
I have some advice for Tiger fans: don't buy the extra beer for the party after the game. The spirit of Greg Frey is with us still.
OSU over Tigers, 24-21.
Great D!
The one good thing about those commercials is that I can go downstairs to post. But that is it.
I was messing with Dysart who had a slow connection.
Big slow Buckeye puts heavy pressure on LSU QB, LSU forced to kick FG
10-3 Turtles.
Buckeyes 10
LSU 3
Tradition. It's the oldest conference in college athletics. It adopted the name in 1917, kept the name between 1946 and 1950 when there were only 9 teams, and still kept the name when Penn State joined in 1990.
Take a look at the conference website. Look carefully at the logo in the top right hand corner and you'll see the number 11, acknowledging the number of teams. (Hint: look on either side of the 'T' in Ten).
You called that one.
There is a sense that OSU is on a mission to redemption this year.
Good job D! Held to a FG. Time for the O to march down the field AGAIN!
Impressive start for the slow team, for sure. But LSU will hang in there...it will be an all day sucker to knock them off.
The OSU Sloths are crawling down the field. Wells to the 40. Has 5 carries, 86 yds.
That is why outside of the Big East, I have a deep respect for the Big Ten. Big on speed.
For how long?
The Tigers do not look patient.
4th and 8 for the Molasses, Kicks and LSU takes possession deep in their own territory, the 15 I think.
Close call for now LSU but your turnover is coming up !
I have always respected outside of the Big East, the Big Ten for their traditon of football excellence. :)
Hey, I’m up for another commercial.
True, the better it is to post. A good way of protecting LSU from embassresing itself.
Thanks for your detailed presentation. My UConn women’s basketball team just beat Pudue’s yesterday.
