No Slingshots at Scene of Tiger Attack
Jan. 2, 2008
Police today flatly denied a report that the three victims of the Christmas Day tiger mauling at the San Francisco Zoo were carrying slingshots on the day of the attack, which claimed the life of a 17-year-old zoo visitor.
The denial follows a report that appeared in the New York Post and cited an unnamed police source who made the slingshot claim about Carlos Sousa Jr. and brothers Paul and Kulbir Dhaliwal. Sousa was killed in the attack.

I've wondered what happened to the 4th guy, as did she. On the other hand, my concern is that he left one of his shoes behind.
Wonder what analysis of the blood trail will reveal?
There’s no evidence the young men who were attacked refused to talk to the cops.
I am beginning to wonder how accurate that report is.
What legal right did they have to pull the arrest records on these two and then release it to the media?
As long as arrest records are public access, I don’t see a problem with the police releasing them to the public.
The only cheap thing here is your cheap (and totally irrelevant) shot.
It’s a fact the brothers have not called the father of the deceased. So it only stands to reason that the report of them not cooperating with authorities rings true as well. Or is Mr. Sousa lying too?
I love my animals far above humans I don’t know.
If it came to a choice between saving you and saving the Dread Boston Salty, frankly the DBS would win.
Nothing personal, you understand, I hope.
Modern police work. Come up with your idea of what happened and then try to make some facts fit it. Disregard those that do not.
IIRC, the brothers have now talked to Mr. Sousa.
Presumably, they could be charged with murder to cover the city’s liability here. Anything they say can be used against them. Innocence is irrelevant. Why put your future at stake?
Father of teen killed by tiger wants to talk to survivors
""They have not called me," Sousa said. "Last time I talked to them is when they told me my son wasn't with them, and the next day I found out my son was dead, and that makes me a little angry"
Now, unless you know of something more recent....please post your link.
I will look. Like I said, not certain. Going on memory.
You won’t find one because there aren’t any that say Mr. Sousa has talked with the 2 brothers.
The tiger may have been in heat! Other than that there are 100's hundreds of cases where animals attack for no apparent reason.
Was watching discovery once where these two guys raise a couple of tigers from cubs and took them back to Africa taught them how to hunt. etc. One of them walk in the cage with their two pets one day and didn't realize the female was coming in season and the male attack him when he got between him and the female. Lucky for him there three men there to beat him off.
You are right that it could be random or some factor having nothing to do with human provocation...
Its just that this pen was 50 years old and apparently for all that time the tigers could have left any time they wanted.
My cat was about 2 feet long and could easily jump on a 6 foot mantle. Using the wall he could get on a 7 foot book case. For a 8-10 foot long tiger, 12 and half feet just isn’t that high.

You should see what my wife acts like when she is in heat (ducking)....
I can look this weekend. But the boys’ guilt or innocence is not based on whether they talked to their friend’s father or not.
It is based on the evidence.
The question is this: Whose fault is it that the tiger escaped?
We have witnesses that claim the boy’s shouted: “Roar!! Roar!!” to the tigers and lions.
Is this worth the price they paid? I think not.
