The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I’m not really sure what I’ll buy. Nothing extravagant, tho.

I’ve got the Twittery cat in! Hopefully we can keep her that way!

I’ve cleaned stalls and mowed lawn today and I haven’t had a bath yet, so I think I should do that. About halfway done with dishes... ecurbh’s on the way home.

I am hungry, but I still need till about 7... want to come over then?

Sounds good! When do we want to actually order? I’m buyin’...birthday stuff and that. ;-) I’m a little late, but...

Huh...I have goldfinches again. I thought I saw one out there this morning, so I put the feeder back out (I ended up bringing it in during some of the really windy weather in the winter and never got it back out), and it’s covered in finches!

I need to get more seed this weekend. Among other things.

Do we know what we want? I don’t have a flyer or anything...

I could call it in in 15 minutes or so. My phone is dead again.

You know our phone number, give them that for delivery and they’ll look us up.

They usually have that two larges two toppings $20 special... What did we do last time? One sausage and green pepper... one pepperoni and mushrooms or something like that? That’s a pretty good mix :~)

OK...that works. Or maybe we could do a white sauce with peppers and chicken? That one’s good, too...

Waiting for the phone to charge enough so I can call!

Has everyone seen it?

I think that The scenes with Jack and Kate are before the scene where we saw him freaking out at the airport talking about flying back and forth trying to find the island.

I also think that Jack's dad may very well be Jacob. He was connected with so many of them Jack, Clair (her dad also), he ran into Sawyer and Kate in Australia, and I'm sure there are others.

But now we know why Clair doesn't make it off the island but Aaron does. That still leaves us the sixth one. Kate was "doing something for Sawyer" so he wasn't one of them. It can't be Juliet since she wasn't on the plane. Same for Desmond. I don't think it's Michael because of Walt (where ever he is).

So, that clear?

The only thing I've ever envied about the Navy:

Although I may swipe the commentary for my tag line.

Schweet.

[sigh] Ahhh... the Iowa class. I’ve opined at length already on them. I feel so lucky to have been able to see one fire shots onshore. Close. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

I know they’re inefficient. I know they’re expensive. I know there’s better ways to spend money in the DOD. I don’t care. We should have something like New Jersey left in the inventory. Maybe a couple of them.

Just think what we could build now. Nuclear powered. Three or four feet thick of Chobham Armor at the waterline. Twelve inches of Chobham around the superstructure. Computer-controlled laser-and-satellite guided munitions from sixteen -no- eighteen inch tubes with fifty mile range. Heck... gimme a freakin’ railgun on the thing. Three hundred mile range. Throw in some lasers and missiles and whatever else we can.

It could be a heck of a ship. Even the old Iowa class were the only ships in the inventory that could actually withstand a modern (silkworm, exocet...) missile strike and probably survive and keep fighting. Anything else we have today pretty much becomes a mere hole in the water.

Just make it look like the Iowa class. The single best lines ever drawn by a marine architect. Bar none.

IMHO. :-)

I read somewhere where the kamikazes avoided Iowa-class battleships. If they managed to get through the horrendous number of AA guns, they just made a smudge on the paint.

Morning - phone service on the fritz, first time we’ve been able to get on. We’ve been using our cell phones. Don’t know how long it will stay on, line still full of static.

Izzit Comcast? You may need to call a Priest.

They sent me their final insult this week. We switched to Verizon on March 3. I took the equipment back to Comcast on March 12 and offered to pay the bill. They said "no, wait until you get a final bill."

I got that bill right around the time I went to New Orleans. I got back just in time for National Democrats' Day. So since I was buying another federal employee, I decided to put it off until the first of May.

At ~best~ this statement is five weeks old, but it's more like a month.

Thursday, I got a notice from a collection agency. I'm trying to decide now if I'll ~ever~ pay it. I blogged about it last night and by the time I got up had a "please let us regain your trust" response from "Comcast Customer Care."

I told him it was too late for that and remarked that he seemd to be the only person in the entire Comcast empire with the ability to respond.
