SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) -- Police are investigating whether several items found in the enclosure of a tiger who fatally mauled a 17-year-old man show that the animal was attacked or taunted, San Francisco Zoo spokesman Sam Singer said Wednesday.
Police are examining a large rock, a tree branch and other items, Singer said.
"They [police] are trying to make a determination that those items or any other things that happened on Christmas Day were part of some attack on the tiger or something that angered Tatiana, causing her to come out of her cage," the spokesman said.
San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong has said that a shoe print found on the railing at the tiger enclosure is being examined to determine if one of the victims climbed over the rail or threw their leg over the side.

It worked for 60 years until these hoodlums (let’s be honest) did something mean enough to get a tiger really, really pissed. I think being hit in the head with a rock 9 inches in diameter would probably do it. (that is the size of a rock they found in the pit, along with a stick and a pine cone, which were not from trees in the pit)
It’s just like the ferris wheel. If you take loose the seatbelts and stand on top of the seat, you will probably fall and die.
If you throw rocks at the tiger and dangle your feed over the edge or try to climb into the pit, you will probably be tiger salad.
The zoo should not be held responsible monetarily or legally for asinine, thoughtless, life-risking acts done by patrons when there are posted signs restricting that behavior.
The tiger wasn’t hungry, else it could have gotten them all. It only ‘got’ the ones that actually threw something at it.
It did know who was who. Those who think tigers are not that smart should walk into a tiger pit, and call the tiger a dumbass to it’s face. Then, they would find out (like these young men did) just who the dumbass is.

No one has discussed that shoe except to note it was OUTSIDE and didn't belong to the victims.
They have to succeed on that very point.

If clearing your throat caused the tigers (not lion) to do that, it would have already happened over the past 60 years the tiger pit has been there in that zoo.
If there is a gorilla in a cage and it says “Do not stick hands in cage”, and you do, then you could get your arm ripped off.
These young men did something the caused a tiger to get really, really pissed off. Like hit in the head with a 9” rock. And likely climbed on top of the barrier or over it.
A tiger ,surging with adrenaline after being hit, can do amazing things.
Young men, drinking vodka, alone in the park, just before dark, throwing rocks at the animals, climbing over the pit wall.....
But... blame it on the zoo for making not making the pit IDIOT PROOF.

If that were true, then places like DISNEYWORLD and SIX FLAGS wouldn’t exist.
There is no fun in an AMUSEMENT PARK if there are NO RISKS.
We pay money to be put into machines that stretch RISK to it’s limits. Sometimes something breaks, and people get hurt.
The difference is that they don’t SHOOT the ROLLERCOASTER after it kills someone.
