Dolphins Name Jeff Ireland General Manager
Miami Dolphins.com ^ | 1-2-08

Posted on 01/02/2008 1:24:00 PM PST by Dysart

The Miami Dolphins today named Jeff Ireland as their new general manager, effective immediately. Ireland joins the Dolphins after a seven-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys, including the past three as the team’s Vice President of College and Pro Scouting. In fact, of the 53 players on the current Cowboys team, which went 13-3 and won the NFC East in 2007, 38 were acquired over the last three years, including 12 of the club’s 22 starters.

“I am excited about joining the Dolphins as their general manager,” Ireland said. “I know the great tradition of the team, and in my mind they are one of the flagship franchises in the NFL. They have a great owner in Wayne Huizenga, who I know is committed to making the Dolphins into winners once again. I am looking forward to working with him and everyone else in Miami to achieve that goal.

The fat man is raiding his former team. He picked the right guy to go after, though, because the drafts were awful around here during Parcells days until Ireland arrived. Bet he still loads up on tight ends at Miami.

Bet he courts Garett or Sporano next.

Well, I like Parcells. I really do but I’m concerned to see him taking away valuable members of my favorite sports org.

I doubt Garett is going anywhere, but Sporano defiantly will go somewhere whether that is Miami or not. I would be worried about some key players with contracts to renew though. Supposedly Bowles(?) will go as well.

Garrett reported to interview w/ Atl Friday. Too smart to accept that job but it’s believed he’d take the Giants job, maybe SD or SF if available. Miami seems like a long shot but not out of the question.

Bottom line— Dallas cannot lose Sporano AND Garrett without suffering.

They just got good.

Oh yeah. I can see that happening. Sporano deserves a shot at HC and I know that Parcells said to him after Sean Peyton inquired about his availability after his hiring at NO, "you're not going anywhere." So he thinks pretty highly of the guy. However, I believe Sporano was not happy about his refusal to grant permission to interview.

So does that give him pause or is the opportunity too great to pass up? And think about, would you like to work under Parcells? I'd have to deliberate for a spell.

FYI just heard — Local writer(JFE of the FWST) who talks to Parcells says she believes there is an 80% chance that Sporano gets the HC gig at Miami.

The fat man continues to feast on Dallas groceries!

He won’t go after Garrett. He’s never worked with him. I don’t even think Garrett’s going anywhere.

Parcells blocked Sparano’s move to New Orleans because Sean Payton was going to call the plays, and therefore Sparano was not truly accepting a promotion.

Sparano would receive a real promotion were he to accept the Dolphins HC job. (I’m not quite sold on Cameron getting fired yet, by the way.)

The Dolphins’ cheerleaders are the hottest in the league, easily.

All True. Yet he could have been granted permission to interview/go. It was denied.

Unless Parcells has some familiarity with Cam, and I don't know that he does, he's gone.

Re: Dallas Cheerleaders: it pains me to say that they are way overrated. There are tons of superior women in this town not on that squad. They tend to all wear way too much warpaint and sport entirely too much silicone. They live on rep and hype only.

I could assemble a finer crew in about a day's time.

He will probably start Scott Brunner or Vinny Testaverde next year.
