An empty vodka bottle was also found in a car used by Amritpal Dhaliwal, 19, and his brother, Kulbir, 23, on the day of the mauling, which left 17-year-old Carlos Sousa Jr. dead, according to the source.

The discoveries could be an indication that the brothers may have taunted the 350-pound Siberian tiger before it leapt from its grotto.

A good trial lawyer like John Edwards would have the entire jury all crying and angry at the zoo. Big money for a good money attorney.

Will he channel the tiger?

Yours is the most intelligent analysis of the situation I've read yet.

(See my article on this topic.)

Could you please provide a link or other reference to your article?

...they are not going to get a dime from a reasonable jury.

In San Francisco?

And, turns out tigers do have a good sense of smell.

Although bears invented dumpster diving, I'm sure the tigers could come up with the same thought very quickly if given the opportunity.

BTW, if this hadn't happened to the boys it would have happened to someone else, maybe at noontime, with crowds around.

Could have been dozens of people killed or hurt, maybe even a few eaten.

The fact that it could happen at all is the problem.

More like a Shakespearian “all are punish-ed” outcome. Yes, it appears the victims were “asking for it” but the zoo is equally negligent in ignoring the shortcomings of the enclosure.

A slick lawyer would do his homework and jury screening and find a way to keep you off the jury. A law student once told me that criminal defense lawyers don’t like Republicans & engineers on juries, for example.

Steve Doocy brought up a great point....WHY would TEEN AGE BOYS go to a ZOO....and on Christmas Eve, no less??? Zoos are usually families with small children, not teen age boys.

NOW it makes sense that they were TAUNTING...not with words but THINGS!

I have absolutely no sympathy for the boy killed or the ones injured should the provoking of these animals be proved.

Dito! I think they should have the book on animal abuse thrown at them.

They're idiots!

Purely legally speaking, probably so. But I stand by what I said. If I’m on the jury they don’t get a dime from me. I don’t reward stupidity, especially if in fact that stupidity caused what happened. Sorry

Sue Zoo for $$$ when the tormented animal tries to escape.

If this article is true, the suit should be filed against the boys.

Calling..... PETA, WSPA(World Society for the Protection of Animals),PATH(People Protecting Animals & Their Habitats)etc., etc,.

I believe in Yellowstone some years ago a black bear took a New Jersey tourist out of the gene pool. The bear was saved though since plenty of eyewitnesses had the deceased idiot provoking the bear so he could get a better picture. Both sides will want to settle out of court.

I remember a similar story about the Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn (iirc) about twenty years ago.

Seems some yutes gained access to the zoo at night by scaling a fence. They got in the habit of taunting a tiger and eventually climbed a tree and went out on a limb overhanging the tiger’s cage. The tiger crouched defensively, never showing any aggression ... until, emboldend by the tigers passivity one of them went out too far on the limb and came within the tiger’s reach. Perhaps a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, but in this case the tiger’s did not.

With one mighty bound the tiger grabbed the yute in front of his horrified friends and pulled him into his cage. Needless to say this story had a happy ending. The decision was made not to destroy the tiger and he lived out his years with the happy memories of one who laughs last.

My understanding is that PETA wants all zoos to be abolished, as they are cruel and unusual punishment for animals.

Still doesn't cause me any pity for idiots taunting a man-killer in a cage. I don't buy the premise that it was 'just a matter of time' ........
