Father of boy killed by tiger says he'd like to hear from survivors
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | December 30, 2007 | Suzanne Espinosa Solis

Sousa, reached at his home in San Jose tonight, said he had not heard from his son's friends, who were released from San Francisco General Hospital on Saturday.

"They have not called me," Sousa said. "Last time I talked to them is when they told me my son wasn't with them, and the next day I found out my son was dead, and that makes me a little angry but there's nothing I can do."

The Dhaliwal brothers have been hostile to police in the death investigation, authorities have said. After the attack, the brothers refused to give their names to authorities or identify Carlos Sousa Jr. They also refused, until Thursday when they were interviewed by police, to give authorities an account of what happened. Police have not revealed details of their interview with the brothers.

Eventually the tiger gets angry, kills one of the young men and drags him over near the enclosure. Then the cops show up and shoot him.

The tiger was shot while attacking the two punks near the cafe. Your theory is wrong.

We'll actually have to wait until the various pre-trial hearings on this one to coordinate what the cops say, the guys say, the zoo says AND, most important, the blood tests say.

The distance between the enclosure and the Cafe is sufficient that the brothers could say "we ran away" even with the tiger dragging the body of the dead guy a fair distance back to the enclosure.

Supposedly the zoo opens tomorrow so you can run over there and check for traces yourself!

”The distance between the enclosure and the Cafe is sufficient that the brothers could say "we ran away" even with the tiger dragging the body of the dead guy a fair distance back to the enclosure.”

So let me get this straight. You think the tiger dragged Carlos (that’s the one that died) from the café back to her den. Then the tiger ran BACK to the café to finish off the other two? And what links do you have which led you to believe this theory of yours? Please provide them so I and others can be on the same page as you.

P.S. I’ve provided 2 links which state what the police (who have talked with the 2 survivors) have reported what the sequence of events are….so far. Yours is just made up.

There are other stories that the two survivors were uncooperative and refused to let the cops know much more than name, rank and serial number.

Unfortunately we are still totally dependent on what some reporter wants you to hear about what he thinks a cop, of indeterminant rank, wanted you to hear.

Took three days to get a good drawing of the enclosure out to show us what the tiger had to do to get out.

I spent half an hour last evening reviewing news stories against an overhead map of the zoo. Much of what has been said about who went where, found what, or bit off is inconsistent to one degree or the other with what could or could not be done given the layout.

That includes even the initial estimate that the tiger tracked these guys 300 yards (just under a quarter of a mile).

The tiger wasn't on visuals here, but smelled her way to her targets. There's too much ground clutter in a tigers way to have seen from the enclosure area to the cafe.

These things will have to be worked out in hearings, tapemeasures, and blood samples.

Since it appears to be the case that it was relatively easy for this tiger to get out and go hunting, seems to me she wouldn't have been the first. The plaintiff's lawyer doing his 20 questions for the first deposition might want to keep it in mind that someone could know of earlier escapes.

"seems to me" That's the problem.

I go by news reports just like everyone else. I don't speculate like you've done on what "could have" "should have" happened. While I can appreciate your skepticism of the matter, the fact that it's been reported twice of who got mauled first and where is pretty evident.

I'm sure Mark Gregaros (the lawyer the 2 survivors hooked up with) will clear it all up for us. Ya right.
