My wife was letting our dogs ou in the backyard yesterday when she spotted someting starting to climp a tree, she called on me to come quick.
"What is that!
"I think it's a fisher Cat."
I ran in to grab my camera but it had climbed a tree before I could get a good shot, we watched for about 20 minutes and he stared his decent down. I sent my son out after having switched the digital to video mode.
What follows is footage from 100 ft away.
I've uploaded the video which can be found here:
http://uncutvideo.aol.com/users/custom65/67ae48e867e62e3db90e0bdaae813c0d?index=0
It's only visible for a few seconds.
Walking around in a foot of snow and never having used a recorder before it looks more like the Blair Witch Project more than anything.
Forward to the footage 58 seconds in.
Funny looking creature, face almost that of a bear cub and a tail longer than a Racoon.

Has anyone seen one of these things before?
Oh and he has already been punished for using the H word.

"All that camera blur I thought maybe you found Usama bin Laden!" That explains why he tried hiding in a tree! No caves around these parts.

No tails to my knowledge but my knowledge of Bears is not extensive!
It was the trademark hump and movement that led me to guess Bear Cub.

Never heard of those. Interesting looking creature. What, your dogs didn’t go after it? No treats in their stockings this year.

I would let it in the house and see what it does.

That's what happens when you send a 10 yr old out to do a job, he's the only one with snow boots!
I did get 1 still, he is obscured in the tree but it gives you an idea of his size.

No, when she spotted it she called them back in before any trouble started. From what I've read these are pretty vicious creatures, I doubt they would attack a large dog but when cornered I'm sure it would fight.

"THATS a bearcat." Those are not native to North America, besides it would be too small.

I considered Wolverine too, but thought this beyond its range...this assuming our humble poster here is true to his screen name.
I think he may be right about a Fisher Cat(mustelid).
