True. I cant help but imagine how many times on New Years day when it is 4 degrees outsideand snow is three feet deep in the driveway that some man in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, N.D. etc. turned on the Rose Bowl where it is 78 degrees, sun is shining and turned to his wife and said: Myrtle, thats it. This year we are movin to California, just like those Dodgers did last year! That's basically why Pasadena exists...it was the Indiana Colony of California - which in turn probably contributes to why the Tournament of Roses Committee chose to invite the Big-10 to its exhibition game..

That's basically why Pasadena exists...it was the Indiana Colony of California I recall growing up in Long Beach, where the "Iowa Picnic" was an annual event at Recreation Park well into late 60's. I am sure there are other towns that had localized ExPat populations that all came from the same area.
