Omega Man, like all movies from the 70s, had the main character die in the end. The 70s was a real downer man... Very defeatist, “we’re all going to die”, food is scarce, mankind too many... The liberals must have seriously owned Hollywood back then too.

“I Am Legend” is based on a book published in 1954 & the main character dies at the end of the book.
So to be fair, it was the author’s vision that the character die at the end long before the 1970’s rolled around.

Actually, the book I Am Legend had a dismal ending. In the Omega Man, Heston dies but passes on "the cure". In an odd twist from the book and the two movie predecessors, Will Smith was hiding from the monsters...see the movie to find out the rest.
