He wants to work in Montana, that would probably be the Hell Creek formation. It has all sorts of dinosaur fossils and also preserves the K/T boundary generally interpreted to be caused by a meteor impact that resulted in the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs.

While dinosaurs are glamorous, I kind of hope he might search for some of the more ancient extinct creatures.

I worked in Montana one summer. I was north of the outcrops of the Hell Creek formation, but I still found lots of dinosaur bones. Came back with boxes of Hadrosaur bones.
