Besides, any mention of JLennon or some such pop-culture hippy thing as this got a swift off on the TV set. I was only about 7 years old at the time, but I remember the night the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. They had barely started singing when my dad got up and turned the TV off and announced that his family wasn't going to watch that crap. I think I remember it so well because my dad said crap in front of the kids and got scolded by my mom which was an unprecedented occurrence.

That would have never happened in my house. I imagine it happened in private, but never in front of people. EVER.
