The laws aren’t hard. They are designed to keep young adults from preying on children. For example if one kid is 16 and the other is 18 then theres no crime unless Dad finds out. Of course most states have an age where the child cannot consent regardless of the age of the partner. As previously stated is is legal if the couple is married at very young ages. That requires parental permission and is rarely done. 40-50 years ago it was much more common for 14-15 year olds to be married. Again in those cases the sex was between married people and not casual by a young adult using her position of authority to prey upon those placed in her care.

It might have to do with my European socialization, but I can not find anything wrong with i.e. a 16 and a 18 year old person having consensual sex. No matter if Dad finds out or not and no matter if they are married or not. They are old enough to be responsible on their own, while I find that 14 years (or even younger) for having sexual a relationship is clearly too young. No matter if the couple is married or not. Too early marriage is BS anyway since a wedding supposes a certain grade of maturity.

Our European laws are also designed to protect kids from drooling perverts, but they do not restrict young adults in their natural rights (I do not refer to the case in the discussion since I know not enough about it).

Its legal for a 16 year old and an 18 year old to have consensual sex. My reference to the Dad was while it may be legal it may not be wise. In general I think promiscuity to be a very bad thing.

“Our European laws are also designed to protect kids from drooling perverts, but they do not restrict young adults in their natural rights”

That what our laws are designed for. In this case you have a teacher, a person in a position of authority who was 24 years old who seduced and had sex with a 14 year old on multiple occasions. She did this with his 14 year old friends in the car at the time.

People here are calling him lucky. Our law calls him a rape victim. How does a 24 year old find a 14 year old desirable? I don’t think they can unless what is actually turning them on is the position of power over another and not the actual sex. She clearly has enough physical beauty that she could easily find a partner in any bar on any night of the week. Why didn’t she do that unless she was playing the role of a predator?

Most of those calling him lucky would scream bloody murder if the genders were reversed. Its my position that gender and attractiveness of the 24 year old has no relevance.. Nor does the gender of the child.

Well, they are structured so that 16 & 17 year olds aren’t in jeopardy. but we have run into situations where for example a boy turns 18 and the girl is 17 and they get arrested and he carries a statutory rape conviction around for the rest of his life, not to mention going on certain sex offender registries.

There are some things that are very wrong about our laws, but most of us on this site would agree that just because they’re going to do it anyway is not a reason to condone bad behavior.
