Report: Missing Mom Stacy Peterson Told Clergyman Her Husband Killed His Ex-Wife
Fox News Channel ^ | 11-29-07

he missing wife of a former police sergeant told a clergyman in August that her husband confessed that he killed his former wife and made it look like an accident, according to a report.

A source told the Chicago Sun-Times that Peterson also told two other people about her husband's confessions to her about the death of Kathleen Savio, his third ex-wife.

Stacy Peterson, a mother of two and Drew Peterson's fourth wife, was reported missing on Oct. 29 by her family after she failed to show up to a friend's house. Drew Peterson is a suspect in her disappearance.

Kathleen Savio, was found dead in her bathtub in 2004, and at the time, her death was ruled accidental. Savio died shortly before her divorce settlement with Drew Peterson was settled.

Stacy told her husband she was leaving him and divorcing him the day before she was reported missing by her family, telling him to be out of the house in a few days, according to the source.

Meanwhile, Drew Peterson did not show up to work on the night that Stacy disappeared, FOX News learned Wednesday.

Peterson, who recently resigned from the Bolingbrook Police Department, was scheduled to work at 5 p.m. Oct. 28 but called in to take a personal or sick day, Bolingbrook police Lt. Ken Teppel told FOX News.

"Peterson called in sick for Sunday night (Oct. 28)," Teppel said. "The call was taken by a dispatcher in the afternoon."

A key witness told a friend he might have helped transport the body of Peterson's wife, according to a Chicago Tribune report. That witness — Drew Peterson's step brother-in-law — allegedly helped move a barrel that was warm to the touch from Peterson's bedroom to an SUV.

I’m amazed. If Stacy knew that her husband had killed his former wife, why on earth would she stay in a house with him? Wouldn’t she be appropriately worried that he would do the same to her?

She may have been too afraid. Her instinct would be to go to the polics but Drew was a cop....

So, in other words:

A police officer's wife divorces him.

Then she dies days before the divorce settlement is finalized.

On the day of her death her husband is supposed to be working but does not show up for work.

Her body is found fully clothed in an empty bathtub and she clearly died of blunt force trauma.

The death is ruled accidental, despite the rarity of reported cases of fully-clothed people slipping and falling to their deaths in empty bathtubs.

No murder investigation is opened, despite the fact that the police officer husband had obvious motive, obvious opportunity and no alibi.

That town's police department and coroner's office need to be emptied of all their personnel and the fired personnel all need to be investigated and, at minimum, barred for life from ever holding public or private law enforcement or security position ever again.

I hope they’re put under the spotlight and grilled til they squeal. God help them if they covered up for their buddy and permitted a murder to be concealed.

She was probably afraid. And her hubby was/is a cop, so maybe she was reluctant to go to them. Plus, wife #3 didn’t survive the divorce process, found dead shortly before it was finalized and she wasn’t in the house with him.

“All we need now is the body,” the source said.

FBI search specialists, called in by State Police, were in Lockport on Wednesday assessing the Cal-Sag Channel, where they think Stacy’s body may have been dumped. Investigators selected that location because of certain cell phone calls placed in that area.

Police are discussing salvage operations with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in hopes they will bring in heavy equipment to dredge the area. “The police have already put down underwater cameras, which show it’s cluttered with cars and truck trailers . . . and it needs to be cleared for divers,” a source said.

The source offered this timeline for the day Stacy issued her ultimatum:

At 5 p.m. on Oct. 28, Peterson, a Bolingbrook cop, called in to take the day off.

At 7 p.m., Peterson met his stepbrother, Tom Morphey, at a local Starbucks and discussed “the problems he was having with Stacy and how to dispose of the problem,” the source said.

Peterson reportedly excused himself and left Morphey in the coffee shop with Peterson’s cell phone, which he told Morphey NOT to answer if it rang. The phone did ring after Peterson’s departure, and the name “Stacy” appeared on the caller ID.

The source tells Sneed the call was made near the home of her friend Scott Rossetto, a man Stacy was communicating with via cell phone text messages.

The source believes this was an attempt by Peterson to place the focus of the police investigation on Stacy’s friend.

Later that evening, Morphey was again summoned by Peterson — only this time to his home, where he was reportedly asked to help Peterson remove a plastic blue barrel, which he described to police as feeling warm, and load it into a sport-utility vehicle, sources said.

Why do women stay with abusers in the first place? I begin to think they get some kind of psychological return for it. Maybe it’s fear or maybe they want the sympathy they get for being a victim. Many times cops go to arrest an abuser, only to have the abused party try to stop them from taking the guy away. They say they “love” him.
Go figure.

That Blue Wall of Silence keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

Ilke the Politicians and Lawyers and Judges they serve, too many Cops have become arrogant criminal elitists.

I have no clue why women stay with abusers. My mother wouldn’t leave my father & he was terrible to her & us when we were children. I think it was partly fear & then partly shame. Her family didn’t like my father so I think that had she left him at that time when divorce was frowned on she would have been ashamed. I wish she would have left him & when I was able to to ask her to live with me I believe she then stayed with him for spite. She just got very mean towards him & made life he11 for him.

I wouldn't tar all cops with the same brush.

But it is clear that the police officers in this municipality were knowingly harboring a monster.

All you good points aside....what about the blue barrel that was in the backyard, suddenly being in the bedroom and why hadn’t the ‘step-brother-in-law’ ask Mr. Peterson what was IN the barrel?

Yes, and she was underage, too.

According to news reports, this guy has a habit of having multiple girlfriends while being married. I want to know who his current girlfriend is, and what she knows.

Has anybody else noticed how much wife #4 looked like wife #3?

Another thought: given what happened to wife #3, when she continuously warned others that Drew was probably going to kill her, could it be considered self-defence if Stacy had just shot him?

I am amazed that a 23 year old would marry a 54 year old, especially knowing that she would be wife number 4. Amazing!

A BARREL?... from the BEDROOM?... to his TRUCK?

I sure hope that this guy came forward to police with this revelation at the onset of the investigation and it didn't take this long for him to put 2 and 2 together.

You'd think the guy would have just went out and bought a hand-truck instead of asking a relative for help and risking having to answer the inevitable question as to why there's a very heavy BARREL in the BEDROOM!!!
