That poster on that site said that he supposed it was to have DRM issues imbedded in the code so deep that they will always have the market cornered to a degree, and I beleive it. I think Office 2007 has changes that are for the sake of furthering that market cornering issue as well and they just want to make cross-platform work as impossible as they can to milk money from the business community.

I believe you are right. DRM will be MS's strategy to hold its own against Linux. A DRM-enabled device will necessarily be rigged so that no open-source OS can use it. Hardware vendors will be forced to choose between producing hardware that works exclusively with Windows, or not run on Windows at all

Oh, absolutely. I did the same for the new computer I got 6 months ago. They offered a free “upgrade” to Vista and I said no, I’ll just take the XP. I’ve been running it for a few years with no problems. Funny, they can’t give it away. New computer buyers are doing their homework and passing on Vista in favor of XP.

Plug-n-play and usb support on Win2000 is flaky, at best, in my experience.

Plug n' Pray has always been marginal regardless of the OS, as I've observed, but I've never had any USB issues at all with W2K. It's rock solid.

THe only thing I know about laptop graphics cards is that if you want a laptop with a good one you have to buy a dell. And it is very expensive.

THat’s a dumb move. The more they pull crap like that the more people will be switching to macs and to linux(or variations of).

Maybe the problem with vista is that the hardware tech is lagging behind. I won’t be getting it anyway. I’ve got a full install version of 98SE and also XP. When these no longer meet my needs, I’m saying goodbye to microsoft forever. If not sooner.

It will be even more interesting when Windows XP Service Pack 3—now in advanced beta testing—comes out spring 2008. Testers who’ve tried SP3 said it is quite a bit faster than Windows XP SP2, probably due to new hardware driver support for newer CPU’s and motherboard chipsets.

I doubt they’ll stop supporting XP. They tried that once and the marketplace had a cow.

Actually Millenium Edition is just Windows 98 with the most useful feature removed: the ability to run DOS protected mode.

I bought one Dell Machine that was offered with Windows ME, but opted to get it with Windows 2000 instead for an extra $99. As far as I'm concerned most of the computers built after mid 2000 that were bundled with Win98 or WinME should have been bundled with Win2K.

So my 4 year old dual 3.06 Ghz P4 Zeon Dell Precision 650 probably won't see a performance improvement.

I’ve always liked XP and have used it since it first came out. I have had almost no problems with it at all, which is just one of the many reasons why I will NOT upgrade to Vista until I absolutely have no choice.
