Jim Gilchrist was scheduled to speak at my school, Long Beach City College (LBCC) this afternoon today, 26 Nov but the president of the school supposedly could not get security into the building to ensure his safety, citing that he was too "controversial". If he is too controversial, why was he invited in the first place? I told him that it's too bad some people don't have first amendment rights on college campuses. He just told me "whatever". Next to us and next to the podium where he was going to speak was a display case promoting Aztlan. For some reason, a racist Latino group that calls for sedition and the conquest of the southwest is O.K.

How many times has the excuse “it wouldn’t be safe” been used to shut down a speaker?
How many times has a speaker been assaulted or murdered on a US college campus in 40 years?
There is a chill wind on our college campuses.

I lived in Long Beach most of my life. The campus Left has ensured Jim Gilchrist is not free to speak at any university. That's their idea of open debate.

The President of your College’s best retort was “Whatever”? Wow. Talk about educated.

That’s what he told me point-blank. Then he started to justify it with BS. I suspect the Aztlan radicals were behind a threat of some kind.

Did the man explain why he couldn’t get security into the building?
I mean, what’s so hard about rustling up some of the campus police to provide extra security for a few hours? I’m sure some of them would appreciate the overtime.
This sounds more like an attempt to silence unapproved speakers.
Either that, or the Left admits that their side is full of violent, uncontrollable hooligans and that no amount of security would’ve been enough. Of course, controversial Leftist speakers are okay, because everybody knows that conservatives have class and won’t start a riot just because we disagree.

UCLA keeps Young Republican regional meetings off campus because
the administration demands that they PAY for "extra security".
Same sort of Bravo Sierra excuse to KILL DIVERSITY of opinion
at even publically-funded universities.
Gilchrist should just inform college/universities that he's
now a Muslim when scheduling appearances.
People bow and scrape when they think you might saw their head off
if they displease you.

Tell him to ban the radicals who threatened violence from his campus. Their despotic threats should have no place at the school.

I want to know why Aztlan can have a display. Can you immagine if Jim Gilchrist had a display? They’d tear it down fast!
Crazy world we live in.

How many times has the excuse it wouldnt be safe been used to shut down a speaker? It isn't safe to present such viewpoints, the students might start to think for themselves.
