The writer must be a youngster. What the heck is the “Bob Newport Show”?

The only one I remember is the Bob Newhart Show.

My dad told me (back then, when I was junior-high-school age) his theory that Mr. Whipple and Aunt Bluebell were meant to be annoying; that that was how they created an impression that lingered until you got into the grocery store (no Cosco, BJ’s, or Sam’s Club back then, if you wanted TP you got it at the grocery store).

When I first heard his theory, I thought it interesting but too strange to be true. Over the years, though, I’ve decided that he was exactly right.
