GRAND JUNCTION A 24-year-old man whose speeding vehicle crashed head-on with a car carrying two women, one of whom was pregnant, was charged today with first-degree murder with "extreme indifference" in the unborn child's death.
Both women were injured, and the baby girl was delivered by Cesarean section at St. Mary's Hospital but died several hours later of asphyxiation, authorities said.
Logan Lage, of Grand Junction, is being held on $500,000 bond on a total of 15 charges. If convicted of first-degree murder, he would face either life in prison or the death penalty.
District Attorney Pete Hautzinger said his charging decision was based on the autopsy findings of homicide and the "egregious" nature of Lage's alleged acts.
