AIR FORCE 41, NOTRE DAME 24
SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Air Force authored the latest chapter to Notre Dame's nightmare.
Shaun Carney threw two touchdown passes Saturday as the Falcons rolled to an easy 41-24 triumph over hapless Notre Dame.
It was the fifth victory in the last six games for Air Force (8-3), which ended a three-game losing streak against the Fighting Irish and improved to 6-22 all-time in this series.
Conversely, Notre Dame (1-9) continued the worst season in its storied history, dropping its fourth straight contest while losing to Air Force for the first time since 1996.
The Fighting Irish failed to rebound from last week's 46-44 triple-overtime loss to Navy, their first loss in that historic series since 1963. Notre Dame had not lost to two service academies in the same season since 1944, when it dropped decisions to Navy and then-No. 1 Army.
But Carney helped etch yet another dubious distinction into Notre Dame's record book Saturday, completing 10-of-16 passes for 120 yards to lead Air Force to its most lopsided win in the 44-year history of this rivalry.
Carney also rushed for 41 yards and a score on nine carries for Air Force, which bridged the second and third quarters with 21 straight points to turn a tight contest into a laugher.
Spencer Armstrong gave Air Force the lead for good with 1:12 remaining in the first half, scoring on an eight-yard run to make it 17-10. Carney tossed TD passes of 7 and 10 yards in the third quarter to give the Falcons a 31-10 edge.
Notre Dame has never finished a season with less than two victories. The Fighting Irish close out their home schedule next week against Duke before visiting Stanford in their season finale November 24.
Freshman quarterback Jimmy Clausen completed 22-of-40 passes for 246 yards and three TDs for the Fighting Irish.
Pope ain’t gonna like this.
I think that’s why he bought that soccer team. He knew this was coming.
And STILL the media won’t shut up about Notre Dame.
The Irish should crack into the top 10 after this and may even score a BCS bowl bid.
As a Notre Dame fan, I’ll say this......the reason that ratings are still high because Notre Dame haters are watching to see the Irish lose. It is almost like listening to Howard Stern and hear what is the next offensive thing he’s going to say.
You have no sympathy from me. I’m a Dolphins fan.
Let me tell you something...this week here in Durham, I honestly expect to hear Duke fans talking smack about heading up to South Bend and playing Notre Dame. And Duke is CONSISTENTLY one of the worst football programs in the country and the doormat of the ACC. If Duke walks in and beats Notre Dame at home, I fully expect the statue of Touchdown Jesus to walk off his perch, onto the field, and beat the crap out of Charlie Weis.

Beaten by AF and Navy in one season! Yikes!
It doesn’t even seem to help to have most of their games at home.
I heard yesterday on a radio station out of Indiana, how Notre Dame is not prepared for these games.
Indiana folks are livid at their slide into oblivion.
It seems like just a few years ago they were starting to look respectable again.
Great game. I loved it. The way the two teams interacted and respected each other’s band and team after the game was a rarity in today’s college football. They showed great mutual respect; really something to see.

Watched part of that game, and loved what I saw.
BTW... the refs messed up big time before the half ended. That was NOT a fumble recovery by Notre Dame. The defender was clearly out of bounce before he had control of the ball. (And even that is suspect.)
A good buddy of mine loved going out to the Academy. We both were stationed at Shemya AFB, in Alaska, 1976-77.
Our job was surveillance on the Soviets. We'd often track the bear jets (Tu-95 BEAR (TUPOLEV)) and send up some F-4 Phantoms from Elmendorf. They'd intercept, and send them home. Cat and Mouse.
A good buddy of mine just moved out to Colorado. I spent time at Lowry AFB in 75.
“I fully expect the statue of Touchdown Jesus to walk off his perch, onto the field, and beat the crap out of Charlie Weis”
NBC also has the same idea.
I don’t know that I could think of a better 30 million dollar investment for the doomers. Think what their record would be without their “decided schematic advantage”.
LOL - GO DUKE!!!
Has anyone thus far asked and answered the question: how come Notre Dame is so bad? That is a school with top recruiting potential and a long established tradition of good football. If anyone has heard an explanation for their stinko-punko performanaces, please pass it on to me, as I remain completely puzzled by it all.
Never made it to Shemya, but I was a tanker driver (KC-135) and went to Eielson (sp?) AFB on TDY a few times. I’ve dragged RC’s up over the Pole in pitch black more than once. :)
