This is the same thing that happened 20 years ago with videos.

One would think the industry would have learned from that fiasco.

Stringer even discounted the importance of winning the format battle.

"It doesn't mean as much as all that," Stringer said.

It doesn't look like it. Looks like a Betamax II attitude.

Sony never learns. I wonder if Blockbuster does - if so, perhaps they’ll realize how monumental a mistake it was for them to go Blu-Ray only, considering that all the news is trending in HD’s direction recently.

Right.

They DIDN’T learn from VHS vs. BETA.
They DIDN’T learn from laserdisc vs. CED.
They DIDN’T learn from DAT vs. MiniDisc.
They DIDN’T learn from SACD vs. DVD-Audio.

They keep following the same playbook, and they keep losing. One reason I’m betting the outcome of this “race” will be “none of the above.”

There, fixed it. I have a lot of great Sony products that I enjoy, but they still haven't seemed to learn to stop pushing their proprietary crap when there's a comparable, less expensive solution on the market.
