Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis today became one of five first-time Gold Glove winners in the American League.
The gritty Red Sox first baseman did not make an error in 1,080 total chances and recorded 990 putouts for the Sox.
Youkilis joins former Sox 1B George "Boomer" Scott, a three-time Gold Glove winner [1967, 1968, and 1971], as only the second Red Sox 1B to win the defensive award.
Youkilis is just the second Red Sox player to earn a Gold Glove in the last 16 seasons. Sox captain and catcher Jason Varitek won the award in 2005.

I guess you could say that, but Bill Buckner was one helluva great ballplayer in his own right.
unfortunately, hell make a good third baseman next year
unless...
I'll admit, I'm not a red sucks fan, but I can tip my hat to a stellar year playing the 1B position like he did.
Yukon Cornelius?
Congrats, YOUUUUUUUK! :o)
Too bad he’s going to be playing 3rd base next year. Lowell is selling his ass to the highest bidder so he’s done.
Jeez, tell me that means we are not going to have A-Rod on this team. I know that next year Manny and Schilling come off the books so with their salaries and Lowell’s salary this year that gives them over $40 million to pay that mutt. Still, having Ahole-Rod hitting behind Ortiz pretty much means Papi would hit at least 50 next year.
Free agency pickings look VERY weak this year.
