Nope, no SDS. :-) Just tired of Sony trying to shove their proprietary formats down people's throats - there just ain't any argument against the fact that Sony is just about the most anti-consumer company on earth. If Sony played nicely with all the other members of the HiDef Forum we wouldn't have this insane format war to begin with - but Sony got greedy, picked up its marbles and said "$crew you" to the rest of the world, and developed its own format instead of getting behind HD DVD, which was chosen as DVDs successor by the worldwide HiDef Forum.
Plus, Sony has promised much about advanced content and delivered nothing; Blu is far from a completed spec, and it looks as though it won't be ready for prime time for years, if ever. But I'm assuming you already know about Profile 1.0, Profile 1.1 (deadline has passed - where are the players?), Profile 2.0, etc. If you got any of your friends into Blu, I'm assuming you were honest with them and told them that if they buy a Blu player today it's an incomplete player, with no guarantee that it can ever be upgraded? I can recommend HD DVD to my family and friends with a clear conscience - can you do the same for Blu?
I use a PS3 for my Blu-Ray and Sony sends firmware updates all of the time. Works awesome. Latest update enabled 24 fps for playback. Nice for movies. Gives it a film like quality. Blu-Ray seems to have alot more choices in movies. I hardly ever use my Toshiba HD-DVD player. I use it when the movie isn't available in Blu-Ray. My PS3 upscales standard DVD better also. So yes I can and do recommend Sony products.
BR has more space and bandwidth. Your claim that HD-DVD is complete is false. I still see no verification that TL 51 will play on current HD-DVD players.
How many manufactures make HD-DVD players? You see, this was why Beta Max failed. BR has the support of major electronic manufacturers (Sans Toshiba of course).
One major advantage of BR disk is that they are hard coated. Hard as heck to scratch, something HD-DVD disk have a problem with since info is placed close to the top layer.
Not a Sony fanboy but smart enough to know that Blue Ray does not = Sony. Heck, Blue Ray is comprised of many companies besides Sony.
‘(deadline has passed - where are the players?)’
The first 1.1 stand-alone player is set for release before the end of the month. The PS3 will be able to do 1.1 and 2.0 functions. That’s some 80-90% of blu-ray players right there.
And Blu-ray has been around longer than HD DVD(AOD). Toshiba and MS came along and got the DVD forum to back their format over Sony’s. Sony still has more support from tech companies.
