RIDGWAY -- It's furry, walks on all fours, doesn't have a tail and is apparently not a bear.
The only thing certain at the moment is that the images caught by an Elk County hunter have stirred new debate on the Internet about the existence of Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, as believers call the creature of folklore.
Rick Jacobs, the hunter, said he planted the stationary tree camera in Allegheny National Forest, about 115 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, to try to find a handsome buck. Instead, on Sept. 16, the camera caught images of an unusual creature, he said.
"We couldn't figure out what they were," Jacobs said. "I've been hunting for years and I've never seen anything like this."
The hunter said that after a week of trying to decipher what had walked past his camera lens, he contacted the Bigfoot Research Organization.
Stories about Bigfoot are part of North American folklore and some believe the bipedal creature inhabits many parts of the United States and Canada. Scientists, however, say there is no concrete proof that such a creature exists and brush it off as a combination of legend and hoaxes.
Images posted on dozens of Web sites have generated discussions about "Jacob's creature," as the unknown four-legged animal has become known among Bigfoot believers. The exact location of the siting has not been publicized to avoid people flocking to the area.
Paul Majeta of the Bigfoot group said he has been to the northwest Pennsylvania area and done some analysis.
"My impression is that it is not a bear," Majeta said. "It appears to be a primate-like animal. In my opinion, it appears to be a juvenile Sasquatch."
I see quite a few bears in the areas that I hunt, but none of them have ever looked like that! The legs appear to be too long and the body isn’t nearly stocky enough. Wow.
As someone who went to college in that area, I can attest that is a memeber of any one of a number of sororities.
She appears to be about 10 Iron Citys from acceptable.
It’s a Hoax! I planned one exactly like that for someone’s tree-cam in Minnesota for early October.

We were just looking for a nice buck, said Rick Jacobs, the Elk County deer hunter whose stationary tree camera caught images of an unknown creature, setting off an Internet firestorm of speculation.
We have some funny pictures, he said. Theyre in the hands of some experts.
The pictures, taken by an automatic camera mounted on a tree on a game trail in the Allegheny National Forest Sept. 16, show what appears to be a dark, furry creature walking on four legs. But what is it? Jacobs admits he doesnt know, and doubts anyone is more skeptical about the whole situation than he is.
We hung on to them for a whole week before we did anything with them, he said of the pictures. We couldnt figure out what they were. Ive been hunting for years and Ive never seen anything like this.
So he and his family decided to seek some help.
According to Paul Mateja, network administrator for the Buffalo, N.Y., Roman Catholic Diocese and field researcher for the Bigfoot Research Organization Jacobs daughter talked him into sending the pictures to their organization for an opinion.
Anthropologists and primate experts were contacted by the organization. So far, preliminary results from the experts are saying its a primate of some sort, said Matt Moneymaker, head of the research organization.
As it appears from the multiple Internet sites and forums where discussions on the Jacobs creature are being held daily, some people say it is a skinny bear; many say they just dont know.
Majeta said hes investigated, and believes he has some answers.
My impression is that it is not a bear, he said. Ive met with the gentleman who took the photos and Ive been to the site. Ive done some analysis.
It appears to be a primate-like animal, he said. In my opinion, it appears to be a juvenile Sasquatch.
A what?
Our contention is it is a Bigfoot.
In Northwest Pennsylvania. Neither members of the research organization nor the photographer himself have revealed the exact placement of the camera, wanting to avoid sending crowds flocking to or away from the site.
Mateja says that if the creature in the picture is what he believes it to be a member of the legendary Bigfoot family theres nothing to be afraid of.
If you treat them with benevolence, they will respond to that, he said.
What about all the skeptics? What would Mateja say to them? First of all, its not a bear, he said.
He referred to characteristics of the creature in the picture such as the apparent lack of a tail and the length and shape of the legs, saying they are inconsistent with bruins.
We have two people who are expert biologists. They want to do more analysis. They say its not a bear.
Weve all gotten into this because we believe, Mateja said.
Why dont others believe, even when confronted with a picture not easily explained, asks The Era.
Some religious belief perhaps? responds Mateja. I work for the Catholic church. If its a flesh and blood creature, its one of Gods creatures.
Skeptics say theyve never seen a dead one and never found bones of one. These are rare creatures. You dont find bear carcasses in the woods. These are more rare than bears.
Maybe its just fear of the unknown that makes people doubt that the creature in Jacobs pictures could be something as-yet-unaccounted-for in widely accepted science, Mateja speculated.
They dont believe there could be such big creatures living in our woods without people seeing them. People do see them. They are just written off as crackpots.
In anything, you do have skeptics.
big FEET in the burgh? OH NOOOOOOOO!

What, no Straubs? Did you go to Edinboro?
A bear that has been hurt and is starving.
How would you know they will respond to benevolence? Have you any experience? Has anyone?
A very silk looking bear or with all the idiots getting exotic animals and releasing them, this appears to be a release pet chimp or other monkey.
Allegheny.
Since we lived in White Oak and, being impetuous young lads, we decided to go looking for him. We thought we saw something once, but alas we never found him.
White Oak is about 30min ESE of Pittsburgh.
It’s Janet Reno picking mushrooms.
