Halloween is not the same as a history lesson. Try teaching kids that the Holocaust happened, it was unspeakable, and something like that should never be allowed again.
For just a moment, let's go back to what started this conversation between you and me. In this article a woman stated "You've got to think about what the kids' reactions are gonna be to that. How do you explain that to a little child?" My opinion is that you tell them the same thing parents have been telling children for a very long time: it is not real, there is no need to be frightened. Tell them that the people who put the doll on the barbecue are stupid and you should ignore them. Tell them that if they are frightened again, talk to mommy or daddy and we will make you feel safe. Better yet, if your children might be traumatized, try keeping them from seeing the display.
Your way of answering my opinion is so start talking about twin beds in the 70's, abortion and the Holocaust.
It is really not my nature to 'roll over and let my neighbors' do anything. This is still supposedly a free country and as long as my neighbors are living within the law I can 1) mind my own business; 2) talk to them and try to work out differences that might arise; 3) move; or 4) attempt to have the laws changed to suit my personal agenda.
What exactly would you do if your neighbors had a baby (doll) on the grill? Call the police and the media? When the media shows up do you start talking about abortion and the Holocaust?
I agree to disagree with you and I hope that you enjoy the remainder of your day.
