Chris Pine CONFIRMED as Kirk in Star Trek Posted on Monday, October 15th, 2007 at 12:27 pm by: Peter Sciretta

Chris Pine has dropped out of playing Junior Stemmons in Joe Carnahan’s White Jazz, which means he’s 100% confirmed to play Kirk in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. I know, I know, we already had a Carnahan story earlier today, but this is some breaking news as Pine was undecided when the news broke a couple days back that he was Abrams final choice for the role of Kirk.

I was thinking of one of his “Blackadder” characters.

>> The Star Wars prequels, while they made money, were artistic flops. The Star Trek “Enterprise” prequel was mediocre at best. Maybe, just maybe, the ought not make a prequel!

But the James Bond prequel “Casino Royale” and the Batman prequel “Batman Begins” were both phenomenal. Among the best in each series.

They weren’t techincally prequels since Star Wars in 1977 clearly states it’s “Episode IV”.

This new movie reminds more of a “Muppet Babies” approach! lol

Yeah, like the Federation is going to let a bunch of young punks take the multi Billion dollar Enterprise for a pleasure cruise where no punk has gone before.

But you’re forgetting that in the federation, money is a meaningless concept.

From what I have heard about this movie, Spock and Kirk relive their days at Star fleet Academy. They didn’t meet at the Academy. You can’t fool a Trekkie

“Batman Begins” is the ONLY Batman film worth watching, period. It had its faults, but still a damned good movie. Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne was an inspired choice in casting. He’s consistently good in his roles, frankly.

For fun......y’all go rent “Reign of Fire”. Great movie, highly underrated. Bale and Matthew McConaughey are simply brilliant, and you see a younger Gerard Butler as Bale’s sidekick.....who goes on later to star as King Leonidas in last year’s “300”. Some heavy star power, killer effects. Dragons are awesome.

They can do what they want. I actually like good SciFi, I wish them luck.

I kind of liked Enterprise, hated Voyager and Deep Space 9. I really have not cared for most of the Star Trek movies.

Star Wars was followed by two really good sequels then 3 really bad ones.

Firefly was a good TV show that nobody watched followed by Serenity one of the best scifi movies out there.

You just don’t know until it’s on the screen.

I would like to see movies based on tales of known space.

breeders, ringworld, protectors, puppeteers. I think heeche are in that universe but could be confusing my authors. I think the Niven universe is more interesting than the startrek universe, but that’s just my opinion.

I’m looking forward to it as well. Having a total babe as Uhura doesn’t hurt though.

Always thought Gary Sinise would make a good McCoy, but he'd be too old for this cast.

Not old enough.

They're old enough, they're just too darn good looking to match the original characters.

Who's playing the dispensable Ensign on the away team?

Do you think they will dare use all the now famous lines?

"He's dead Jim", "I don't have the power", etc:)

*They weren’t techincally prequels since Star Wars in 1977 clearly states it’s “Episode IV”.*

Only after the re-release. The original release, and what ran for almost a year after that just said “Star Wars” and didn’t have chapter IV or “A New Hope” after that. Lucas actually thought he would barely make back the money it took to make the film, so he wasn’t predicting any sequels.

Exactly what my husband said :-)

I remember my aunt telling me that Robert Pine (Chris’ father) is my cousin - I am assuming at some remove. A whole arm of the family settled in California and was seldom heard from again.
