Since Fox doesn't have the Curse of the Bambino to bring up, they will share with us all the Curse of Rocky Colavito (who was traded away for Harvey Kuenn), which is probably responsible for "The Catch," and trading Maris, too, somehow.

So, here's a primer on the World Series drought for Indians fans-- lasting since 1948 (the Red Sox and Indians finished with identical 96-58 records in 1948 and the Indians won the do-or-die play-in game to win the AL Pennant, before going on to beat the Boston Braves in the WS). That 1948 team featured Lou Boudreau, Bob Feller, Joe Gordon, Ken Keltner, and Bob Lemon in their lineup and the "rookie" year of Leroy Robert "Satchel" Paige (who did pitch in relief in the WS).

Willie Mays made his catch in the 1954 World Series against Cleveland...

Roger Maris traded away in 1957...

Rocky gets traded in 1960 and has a career season in 1961...

And trading away Tommy John (and 1966 NL ROY Tommie Agee) to get Rocky back in 1965...

Trading Graig Nettles in 1972...

Trading away Buddy Bell in 1978...

Trading Rick Sutcliffe in 1984...

The combined Rocky/SI cover jinx (the Indians lost 101 games in 1987)...

Glavine, Smoltz, and Maddux beat the Indians in the 1995 WS and Jose Mesa lost the 1997 WS for the Indians...

And then the Indians lost the 1999 ALDS to the Red Sox after being up 2-0 (which featured the 6 IP no-hitter relief appearance by Petey)...

Then the Indians lost 6 of their last 7 games and lost the Wild Card to Boston in 2005.

But, the postseason is about second chances. Let's play ball!
