I know it comes from “HUAAC” but there never WAS a HUAAC. That was a Leftist approximation (that could be “pronounced”) of HCUAA (House Committee On Un-American Activities) which got blamed for “McCarthyism” even though it started in the 1930s and continued through the Vietnam War era.
