Dallas most popular NFL team, Jags least
Yahoo Sports / Harrisinteractive ^ | 10/2/07 | Staff

The Dallas Cowboys may be a few years from their last Super Bowl, but they are the favorite football team among adults who follow professional football, rising one spot since last year. Since this survey began in 1998, the Cowboys have always been in one of the top four positions, usually in the top two.

The Indianapolis Colts have continued their steady rise in the rankings and move up one spot, from No. 3 last year to No 2 this year. In 1999, the Colts were tied for No. 27 and have moved up each year since. Rounding out the top five are the Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 3, dropping from No. 1 last year), the Green Bay Packers (remaining at No. 4) and the Chicago Bears (No. 5, moving up one spot). Jacksonville was the least popular NFL franchise for the third straight year.

"...Dallas most popular NFL team..."

It's as it should be.

Like the Yankees and Red Sox, the Cowboys will always be among the most popular teams - and always among the most despised teams. Generally, people either love or detest the Dallas Cowboys - there are few in the middle.

I'm not in the middle.

Teenage years - lived in Washington DC area
Adult years - Houston, TX (season ticket holder Oilers and Texans)

Two reasons right there.

Packers won 12 NFL Championships, in addition to 3 Super Bowls.

Can't wait for the Dallas-Green Bay game in November. Favre is going to shred your secondary.

the Greatest fans are in Green Bay
the Greatest Team is in Green Bay
The GREATEST quarterback is in Green Bay
and with that there is nothing more to say...other than...
...America’s Team wears Green and Gold.

Nah. It’ll be a typical Green Bay/Dalls game.

Dallas winning, of course.

GO COWBOYS!!!!!

Ohhh...I can’t wait to hear the Steeler and Eagles Freeper Fans...spout off on this thread...

LOL, I can honestly say though, I’ve never seen a Cowboys road game where the crowd seemed more for the Cowboys than the home team. I can 100% unequivically say that I have seen AND attended Steelers road games where the Steeler fans have drowned out the home team fans.

I take it you never watched (been too) an Arizona Cardinals game in the nineties?

The Crowd was 70% Cowboy Fans...everyone had either an Emmit Smith Jersey or an Aikman Jersey on...

Most can't give a particular reason for it, I sure can't, but hating them just seems like the right thing to do.

I can. It was living in Fort Worth for 6 months in 86-87. I've never heard so much Monday morning whining in my life....

As a Alabama fan, it pains me to admit that Peyton (a former Vol) is already one of the greatest QBs ever.

On the other hand, when the Steelers played in Texas Stadium, a few years ago, it was probably evenly split between Steeler and Cowboy fans.

In the movie BASEketball, the Dallas franchise was the "Dallas Felons."

I would attribute that to the iron fist the Steelers Organization holds on who gets tickets to their game...as opposed to any real comparison of fan support or lack thereof in Dallas.

I’ve been told it is easier and cheaper for a Pittsburgh fan to buy an airline ticket and a ticket to see the steelers play in Dallas than it is to get a ticket to a Steelers game...because of the Steelers Organization’s ticket policies.

Greenbay is probably a similar example, if there were 30,000 Dallas fans in the Greenbay area with the where-with-all to purchase tickets and the intent to go to the game...do you think they would be able to find tickets? NO....

Same is true for Pittsburgh....

Dallas is much more lenient in who can purchase a ticket considering their world wide appeal...and from my experience third party ticket companies always have tickets to Dallas Games.

Re: I am a native Texan, grew up in Dallas area and despise the Cowboys and always have as long as I can remember. I got so sick of hearing America’s team blah blah ad nauseum... When the Colts play the Cowboys I have nobody to cheer for.

I also root for OU ( I went there )...

Me thinks... you gave up that "Native Texan" Honor when you went Okie!

How 'bout... them Cowboys!

BTW the Dallas Cowboys have been in 8 Super Bowls and won five of them. No other teams has been to more and only the Steelers and those fruity 49ers have won as many.

Talk is cheap, but this season has a feeling the Cowboys doing something special. I hope that feeling makes my 47th year of rooting for the Pokes special! I was 13 the year they came into the NFL and in my 60th year on old Terra Firma, I am ready for the Cowboys to add a 6th Super Bowl to their total.

So, once more... with feeling!

How 'bout them Cowboys!

you are correct sir. I have not seen too many Cards games. I did see the last one though, and most of the game, it was Steelers fans perplexing the broadcast booth with their loud cheers.

When Romo faces a team with both a defense and a scoring offense, they haven’t yet, he will fold like an old chair.

The Bears defense held him to 1 td until 3rd quarter when they got tired of being on the field after the offense puked out every series.

So...if he beats the Pats in a couple of weeks...will you admit that Romo is actually a good quarterback?

And take an honest look at the league...who exactly did Pittsburgh lose to last weekend? Yeah...uh huh...

The fact is Romo is getting it done against teams he should get it done against...whereas the rest of the leagues quartbacks with the exception of Peyton, Favre, and Brady are simply feeble...because they can’t win against teams they should.

Sorry...u just dont have any facts with that rhetoric of yours.
