NY Mets Make History - Total Collapse, Do NOT Make The Playoffs
Posted on 09/30/2007 1:34:56 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache
NY Mets do not make the post-season as the team was mauled by the Marlins 8-1. Phillies win the East...still watching Colorado to see if a playoff game will happen tomorrow against San Diego.

**Minaya is the one who assembled that bullpen.**
And Willie was the one who mismanaged the bullpen, the starting rotation, in game strategy (what's a double switch?) and team motivation.

New York . . . had the bases loaded when Ramon Castro hit a long drive to left field. Thinking it was gone, Castro raised his index finger in the air. But Ross made the catch on the warning track
Wanna bet fans in Philly and Chicago will be making that gesture next year when Castro takes the field or comes to bat? Will he be the starting catcher if LoDuca doesn't re-sign?

ESPN and ESPN 2 is going to have some of the best commentary in sports history tomorrow with the way this weekend in sports has gone. That's why I'm glad I have an ESPN Insider subscription. It's going to be fun to hear The Herd with Colin Cowherd and The Mike Tirico Show on my 3G iPod nano tomorrow, plus I'm taping Mike & Mike in the Morning and First Take on ESPN2 and Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption on ESPN to see all the reactions. Between the crazy finish to the NL this season (still not finished until tomorrow night!) and yesterday's innumerable college footbal upsets, the reaction will be VERY interesting indeed.

If anyone wants a good laugh listen to 680 The Fan (680 AM in Atlanta) tomorrow morning at 6AM. The co-host on the show is an arrogant Mets fan. He been bragging about how great the Mets are and how they were gonna win the division. Well I’m sure he’ll find something else to talk about tomorrrow morning. LOL!

****All Braves games go to Fox Sports South now.****
Not all....about 50 games or so will be on the new Peachtree TV in Atlanta and of course some games on Fox game of the week. However beginning tomorrow people who live in Atlanta will not be able to get TBS with rabbit ears. I've had times when I didn't have cable and I could always watch TBS even though I didn't have cable.

Nate Silver at Baseball Prospectus (9/27) has this year’s Met collapse as the second-worst of all time, trailing only the ‘95 Angels’.

Very good.
I'd love to listen to
WFAN's Joe Benigno & Evan Roberts tomorrow, but I'll have to settle for Mike (Yanks fan) & the Mad Dog (SF Giants fan).
I'll check later to see if there's a podcast of the Benigno & Roberts show.
Of course,
WIP is talking the season from a Phillies point of view.

WFAN in New York is the Mets' station and most of their hosts are fans of the club. Joe Benigno, who hosts the 10 am to 1 pm show with Evan Roberts, is a Mets fanatic. The station puts up mp3 podcasts of shows, so if you can't listen, you'll probably be able to listen later.

If anyone wants a good laugh listen to 680 The Fan (680 AM in Atlanta) tomorrow morning at 6AM. Even more interesting might be WFAN (AM660) in New York. They're the flagship station of the Mets radio network.

The father and son team were practically in tears at sign off...I loved the outro they did on the TBS history at the end. Sweet memories of those games. I remember when we got cable in 80-81..my Dad (RIP), was a huge Mets fan but all we could get at the time were Braves games non-stop. He was a stroke victim at 37 and lost his speech and was paralyzed on his right side..so TV was ALWAYS on to keep his mind active.
I spent COUNTLESS nights watching Braves games with him as a kid on the couch on TBS.

Wasn’t 95 the strike shortened year?
To: My Favorite Headache
1994 was strike shortened year, with games ending in
mid August. Teams doing well included Cle. and Montreal
but were denied.
‘95 was first season to have the three tiered format w/
wild card, etc. In AL Yankees were Wild Card as Red
Sox won division. First ALDS: Red Sox lost to Indians while
Mariners came from behind to beat Yankees.

I'm wearing black today. I'm in mourning.
Oh well...I'll be cheering for the Cubs for now in the post-season, although I've gotta admit...the Phillies earned a lot of respect from me this year. As much as I hate & despise them this morning, I wouldn't be too upset if they won it all.
As long as it isn't the Red Sox or Yankees...may misfortunes descend on both of their clubhouses!
