I’m not for censorship at all, so don’t get me wrong.

But, if Imus was fired and this was supposedly Olbermann’s Imus moment, then to keep a balance, Olbermann would have to be fired, right?

Should liberals (if they hold others to a certain standard on things (whatever it may be)) have to be held to what they hold others to?

Imus was fired for a bigoted and crude statement, the kind of which is repeated endlessly both in public and private. He was paid to do so. Firing Imus was a disgrace. His punishment should have been an audience walking away. My fear is that once we start down the road for firing people for boorish crudeness, or imagined slights, we are essentially giving up free speech voluntarily. The problem is not Imus, or even Olbermann. It goes way back, to the man who used “niggardly” at work and in context, but someone was offended. It goes back to the guy calling a girl a “water buffalo” and that being perceived as a racist statement. It goes back to the idea that any statement antagonistic to the National Organization of Women is sexist and any statement antagonistic to Jesse Jackson is racist. It goes back 20 years, when I was told by a coworker on a newspaper that anyone who opposed affirmative action hated blacks and other minorities. Just taking the time to target Olbermann for the man’s crudeness and crassness contributes to the cancer of stifling opinion and speech to fit an agenda.

I’ve already taken action after hearing Olbermann. I won’t watch the man and I call him a dunce to anyone who will listen to my opinion.

If this guy is targeted, you and I are somewhere on the list. It is dangerous stuff to play around with.
