You will have to excuse my cynicism (sp). I’ve watched the agenda afflicted anti-tobacco lobby start with “We just want some non smoking areas on airplanes” 30 years ago to “We want to eliminate smoking completely.”

Don’t tell me there is no such thing as incrementalism or a slippery slope. The slippery slope gets a thousand tons of KY dumped on it every day by the agenda afflicted grant junkies.

Incidentally, I was a victim of a DUI once. August 2, 1990.

I remember the date because it was the same day Saddam invaded Kuwait. I was driving home from college on the Turnpike in the right lane minding my own business.

Some guy in a Buick swerved into me on my passenger side and then took off, dumping a few dozen empty Bud cans out the window. My car was a wreck but I managed to get on the shoulder and track him down a couple of miles later where his car broke down.

The only funny part of the story was his drunken statement to the cop...”Uhhhh, my girlfriend was jerking around and tried to grab the wheel, I tried to grab it back and swerved and hit the other car.”

To be truthful, I feel strongly about idiot drunk drivers, too, and that those who drive in an impaired state (one in which their perceptions and response time is dangerously affected by the suppression of alcohol) should be prosecuted to the extend of the law.

I feel just as strongly about bureaucrats using that law for their own purposes, which unfortunately is all too common.

‘To be truthful, I feel strongly about idiot drunk drivers, too, and that those who drive in an impaired state (one in which their perceptions and response time is dangerously affected by the suppression of alcohol) should be prosecuted to the extend of the law.’

The prevailing punishment for DUI isn’t nearly strong enough, primarily due to politicians driving drunk on a way to routine basis, judges as well for that matter. I suspect that why the punishments are so lax.

“I feel just as strongly about bureaucrats using that law for their own purposes, which unfortunately is all too common.”

Fair point that I do tend to agree with.

If you have the capacity to reconsider your stance, then that would hardly put you in the category of a moron... It brings you to the position of human being. Too many people are knee-jerk lib-symps about their pet cause and refuse to pay attention to facts. I sensed that you might fit that category and was about to give up on you. It’s rare that someone with such ingrained emotions can get past them to reconsider things logically. Thanks for giving it a shot... and, it seems, succeeding.

I’m in a better frame of mind to fairly consider the opposition to my view on this, in short.

Well then, you may very well be salvageable.

Welcome to the fold, FRiend.
