Underwood, Minn. (AP) -- Firefighters in the western Minnesota town of Underwood weren't quite sure what to expect when they got the call: A donkey had fallen down an abandoned well and was trapped. Firefighters quickly realized that the donkey, who belonged to farmer Warren Gundberg who lived about a mile away, couldn't just be pulled from the abandoned well on Bryan Nelson's land.
So they started pulling away earth with a Bobcat tractor and dismantling the well block by block on Thursday.
Once the west wall of the well had been taken apart, firefighters put a harness around the donkey and guided it out with a rope.
"Whatever it takes," Nelson said as he watched his well come down. "I love animals and I'm just glad it's OK."

Speaking of donkeys, the Democrats no longer deserve to abuse that noble and useful animal by using one as their symbol. The new Dem symbol should be a copperhead.
So, is that well now officially an asshole?
LOL! How witty!
Rescue an ass in MN and take a person’s pet deer away in OR. WTF?
The day is young for me on the East Coast, but your humorous post already made it for me. Well done!
Shake It Off And Step Up
By: Author Unknown
A parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer’s well. The farmer heard the mule ‘braying’ - or - whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together and told them what had happened...and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.
Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back...a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back...HE SHOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP! This he did, blow after blow.
“Shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up!” he repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or distressing the situation seemed the old mule fought “panic” and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!
You’re right! It wasn’t long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, STEPPED TRIUMPHANTLY OVER THE WALL OF THAT WELL! What seemed like it would bury him, actually blessed him...all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.
I like this! And don’t forget its corollary, the First Rule of Holes: when you are in one stop digging !...or is it: get a bigger shovel? ;-)
How dare you so disparage the good name of such a marginally venomous snake (the copperhead) by insinuating a connection to such well-organized traitors (the Democrats)? To compare them to parasites, leeches, or scum would unduly insult the former three groups that God created to perform an identifiable function in their respective ecosystems. The Democrats merely support the worst ideas of al-Qaida, Iran, and the defunct Soviet Union. Their national party represents the enemies within the United States.
For those not knowing the difference, the picture shows the difference between and ass and a hole in the ground.
“Wandering donkey ping! This critter needs a shock collar to learn a lesson.”
The problem is that a donkey never forgets a lesson or a wrong.......
An expert observation. I was just wondering are the firefighters now proctologists?
Thanks for bothering to post the actual picture. Appreciate it.
A doney looks out from inside an abandoned well before As Underwood, Minn. firefighters tear down the walls of the well Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at the Bryan Nelson residence about 10 miles northeast of Underwood, Minn. Firefighters dismantled the well to free the donkey.
Thank you for posting that parable about the farmer and the old mule.
You saved me from trying to find it in my old email.
To both of you, thanks.
Re. post #18 — Sorry for being anthropomorphic, but that donkey looks very happy to finally be getting close to the top.
