LONDON The U.K. release of Ben Affleck's directorial feature debut "Gone Baby Gone" has been shelved due to its close similarities with the ongoing case of missing British girl Madeleine McCann, who disappeared from her Portuguese holiday apartment in early May. Buena Vista International U.K. was due to release the Boston-set thriller, which is based on Dennis Lehane's book about a 4-year-old who goes missing, on Dec. 28 but has suspended the release indefinitely.
"Miramax Films and BVI U.K. are sensitive to the depth of feeling surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann," said a statement. "We have been closely following the case and have decided to delay the release of the film in the U.K."
In a bizarre coincidence, the missing girl in the film is played by American thesp Madeline O'Brien, who shares a physical resemblance to her missing British namesake.

I thought it was pretty much concluded that the British kid’s parents accidentally killed her and covered it up by concocting the kidnap story.
Is that the plot of Affleck’s movie?
Interesting, more so than the similarites between phone booth and the beltway sniper attacks which got it shelved for a couple months i think. Remember that?
no can’t recall that, but I do remember the Arnold movie about Muslim terrorists was due to come out right after 9/11 and it was shelved until they re-did it and changed the terrorists to Hispanic drug dealers.
Does this mean that they will be shelving Brian De Palma’s film about US troops raping and killing Iraqis too since it is reportedly inspired (by De Palma’s own admission) by some current cases that are being prosecuted?
