RIP.
Listened to that “Green Grass and High Tides” song all the time in high school.
It rocks pretty good, even 30 years later.
Hughie was a Florida boy and Southern Rock Legend. We'll miss him!
Dang, nobody has heard of The Outlaws, I don’t think!
Can’t you see
Can’t you see...
A great song that captured the wailing of a wounded soul!
Gypsies danced around the campfire, shook their tambourines
They were waiting for ghost of an outlaw, Sundown was his name
As the midnight hour drew closer, and the sky began to fall
You could see his shadow in the light of the moon
You could hear the Gypsies ca--------ll
She had hair as black as darkness, her eyes a cold blue green
Oh her voice was soft and tender oh, She loved to sing
She will sing no more or dance again, and shake her tambourines
They have taken her away she's dead and gone, hear the Gypsies sing
Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown the Gypsies called
Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown
Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown the Gypsies cried
Hurry Sundown
Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown the Gypsies call Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown the Gypsies cried
Silver doubles in his holsters, stars stuck to his heals
There was fire in his eyes they say, he was dressed to kill
He had hands as fast as lightning, eyes as cold as steel
He came for the one that took her life, lying in boot hill
Gypsies danced around the campfire, shook their tambourines
They were waiting for ghost of an outlaw, Sundown was his name
As the midnight hour drew closer, and the sky began to fall
You could see his shadow in the light of the moon
You could hear the Gypsies ca--------ll
Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown the Gypsies call
Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown
Ooh!! Ooh!! Hurry Sundown the Gypsies cried
I saw them once back in the late 70's. We will miss him.
Hey weegee - one for the R&R ping list
RIP...I saw him with Lynyrd Skynyrd a few years ago.
I am deeply saddened by the news, I was at an Outlaws concert this July and they played great, brought back memories from my youth.
The event was not advertised and the proceeds went to Fidelco. (Guide dog foundation)
There was only about 300 people in attendance but Hughie seemed to be enjoying himself as did the rest of the Band.
He joked about it like having a concert in your own backyard.
I am posting some photos from the concert, he invited the children in attendance to join the group on stage and closed things out with Green Grass and High Tides.
A piece of me is gone somehow.
Goodbye Hughie, hope to meet you again someday.
