Only the repentant heart can receive the gift of reconciliation. The spirit of rebellion cannot dwell in the House of God.

God forgives inadvertant sins committed against Him. That is the idea behind the Yom Kippur liturgy. But God cannot forgive sins we commit against our fellow man. If we have sinned against another human being, we must seek out their forgiveness.
