THEY'RE BACK!!!! D&C to Return on Monday (UPDATED WITH ENTERCOM CONFIRMATION)
Scott's Shots/Boston Sports Media ^ | 09/9/07 | David Scott

One of the most twisted and convoluted chapters in Boston radio history will come to an end on Monday as John Dennis and Gerry Callahan are scheduled to return to the airwaves at WEEI 850 AM for their 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. shift, Scott's Shots has learned.

Negotiations throughout the weekend - involving Entercom president and CEO David Field - yielded a five-year deal for both hosts. No further details are available at this time, but the announcement is expected to made at the beginning of the Monday morning show, which Shots will live-blog for the first of hour or so, beginning at 5:45 a.m. on Monday.

Messages left for Entercom spokespeople were not immediately returned on Sunday afternoon after 2 p.m., nor were messages (voice and text) for Dennis and other 'EEI insiders.

UPDATE: Entercom spokesman, George Regan - reached at the Meadowlands where he was taking in the Pats-Jets game - confirmed to Shots, shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday, that both Dennis and Callahan will return for Monday's 6-10 a.m. shift and that an announcement on the deal will be made following the show. (No word from Regan whether the deal was consummated during a walk on the beach.)

We will have more on the deal this evening, including a re-cap of the saga that has surely left some hurt feelings and bad blood among the participants. However, the involvement of Field seems to have been just what was necessary to retain the high-rated duo and avert a programming disaster for 'EEI, which has been re-jiggering the morning drive time slot with mostly atrocious fill-ins.

He’ll be competing with them in am drive if the move to
WTKK comes true, that’s for sure. I don’t know how much
D&C got in their new contract—maybe that will come out
tomorrow. Will Entercom have money left to be able to
offer Howie a “competing contract”?

Oh, and WEEI’s Glenn Ordway is supposedly up for renewal
next year. A big part of the big moneymaker that is The
Big Show (airs opp. Howie) How much can they afford?
Of course, if they bring the bucks in, they can open
the wallets wide.

Boston Sports Media/Scott’s Shots has a running blog on D&C including links to Herald and Globe
articles.

>>. . . To the best of our knowledge, the eight figure deal being thrown out is the pair’s combined deal. Each man will be paid in the high-six figure range, with ratings bonuses that could to push the deal over a cool mill for each.
