I am sure they DO get skin cancer or pre cancers. My blond and blue eyed husband age 72, who spent a life time in the sun, has a standing appointment every 2 months with the dermatologist. When they first started showing up they were burned off but now they have to be cut off and biopsied. so far so good, no melanoma yet.

I keep telling my wife to be careful with the sun. She has this need for direct sun. I wish your husband the best.
