Most of it has to do with people who own the dogs.

About half of dog attacks are by pits.

About 95 percent of dog attacks are by unspayed/neutered animals

Obviously, a whole lot of owners aren't neutering their pits, and therin lies the problem.

Rather that banning the breed, I'd ban morons from owning them.
