Matt Young of Red Sox no-hit the Indians once but wasn’t credited with it because he only pitched 8 innings—the Indians WON (1-0,
I think...and of course thanks to errors or walks it is
possible to score a run w/o a hit). Since the Tribe
didn’t have to come up in the bottom of the 9th (game
was at Cle.), it was just 8 innings and baseball
doesn’t recognize it as a no-no.
It’s been said if a team’s in first place by 6 games or so
on Labor Day, they’re in pretty good shape to win the
division. I think Red Sox are up by 5 right now...well,
Bos. leads Balt. 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth while the
Yankees are losing to Tampa Bay 8-2 in the bottom of
the ninth.
The Sox could indeed be up by 6 in mere moments, as we head
into Labor Day.
