a beginner in learning : novice
Example Sentence:
A reviewer described the new photography manual as "a clear explanation of the basics, ideal for tyros but too elementary for seasoned shutterbugs."

The word "tyro" is hardly a newcomer to Western language. It comes from the Latin "tiro," which means "young soldier," "new recruit," or more generally, "novice." The word was sometimes spelled "tyro" as early as Medieval Latin, and can be spelled "tyro" or "tiro" in English (though "tyro" is the more common American variant). Use of "tyro" in English has never been restricted to the original "young soldier" meaning of the Latin term. Writers in the 17th and 18th centuries wrote of tyros in various fields and occupations. Herman Melville used "tyro" to refer to men new to whaling and life at sea. More recently, The New York Times Book Review and Rolling Stone used the noun attributively (that is, directly before another noun), referring to a "tyro sleuth" and a "tyro director," respectively.

I do give him credit for jogging and fitness......from the article it does say he’s jogged for years now.

Well, Open House is done, and I just got off the phone with the bus driver. Yippee, no more hauling the girls to school every morning :) I do have to go in on Tuesday and make arrangements about “bus passes” for them, because Tuesdays the 2 girls will get off at Becky’s house and on Thursdays will get off at my house.
Jax’ new teacher is also new to the school and the district. She comes from Pennsylvania. She did have a bit of a deer in the headlights type look when Jax commented on the book she had displayed that will be the first one they will be reading. Jax has it practically memorized, she has read it so many times.
She asked me about Jax SOL scores (state tests) and handled my response that the reading score was perfect, but did swallow when I said all others were nearly perfect. She visibly relaxed when Jax chimed in that she was in the TaG program.
I’m late for class....the dog ate my homework :^
New teacher? Jax will break her in with no trouble....LOL.

Just a little bragging - Miss Ava went to her two year old check up and wowed the doc. She commented on his “stethoscope”...the doc turned to her mom and asked if she just said stethoscope....he told her she was very advanced in her vocabulary. It was cute.
Her mom had had her watch the Bernstein bears doctor visit over and over so she would be prepared and not be afraid. It worked.
